An Adventure with the Universe

Hello and Welcome. I’m so glad you are here. I feel like we’re becoming friends as I write on this white page in front of me, watching the words appearing before me, as if by magic. I guess that’s kinda what every day is like, right? Every second, every minute unfolds before us as if by magic. We know that’s not right, but maybe it is. I believe in magic and, in fact, the first sentence in my next Isle of Foote novel is, “I remember the time of Magic.”
With that in mind, if this is your first time to one of my blogs, know that I also believe in Soul Contracts. Here’s the definition by the man who wrote the definitive book for me that planted it firmly in my belief system, Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. There is much out there written about this topic but that one clicked it in for me after researching the concept for years.
“A Soul Contract is a spiritual agreement made by a soul before incarnating into a human lifetime. It is not a rigid punishment or destiny, but rather a flexible {think free-will} blueprint outlining the key lessons, challenges, relationships, and experiences the soul will encounter on Earth.”
It has become the answer to help me understand this crazy world we live in. In so knowing this belief about me, and if you’re willing to read on, let’s go.
Recently, as I was channeling with my higher self, the subject of control, being controlled, came up and the discussion caught me by surprise. I always thought of myself as a pretty free-thinking, free-flowing kind of gal though a friend has told me I liked to have control over things. In the channel I felt a quick dive into control, almost as if I was ensconced in a round bubble of mist with the word Control coming towards me, as I looked for something to show me why I was there.
A too familiar word appeared out of the mist-Fear. It descended upon me like a knowing. Aware of my close relationship with Fear, I understood this as part of the work I’m to do for my Soul Contract. The thought became clear; Fear is behind Control, manipulating it in ways I had not realized. Now maybe this doesn’t resonate with you, but, for me, bells were going off and a whistle or two. I know I’ve talked of fear before, but this was seeing it from whole new viewpoint.
Fear of not having it my way. Fear of the results if I do not control the issue. Fear of life if I am not doing it “my” way. Then, as I was comprehending all this, I saw my controls falling away from my body. I felt what seemed like a headband around my forehead tear in two, loosen and fall away. I felt lighter.
I understood that I’m afraid of what life is going to hand me if I let go. I could feel that fear in my heart, not wanting to risk. The idea came to me; If I don’t let go, I might never know the wonders that Source/God/Higher Power, whatever your word, has in store for me. The realization of the side effects of control was becoming more clear. Going back into the feeling of controlling or being controlled, I got the sense I was being tied up and my throat constricted. I felt smothered and wished only to break free and run away, escape the control, however its hold on me.
Then I wondered, "If it’s not 'Just So,' what would happen to me?" I am arranging the outcome by controlling so what am I afraid of if I didn’t? I wasn’t sure what the answer was–harmed in some way, left behind, not having what I wanted when I wanted it, lost? The question then arose, "What have I been missing out on by having this 'control,' covering the Fear without my cognitive awareness of doing so?" I felt miffed that Fear was popping its ugly head up again. Here I think I’m moving along my life’s path but that old familiar block has emerged again...unwanted and unloved. I laughed as I watched the magic a Soul Contract uses to show you what you need to heal.
In the realization of this awareness, I am feeling freer and my body is relaxing. AlAnon comes to mind once more as I remember one of my favorite slogans: Let Go and Let God. If you think you might be seeing a recurrent theme in these blogs I would not be surprised. Apparently Fear-False Events Appearing Real-are in various aspects of my life’s lessons.
I would like to insert a big BUT here because maybe I am learning the lesson before it is shown me by Spirit. Take for example this past Sunday. I was taking my 17-year-old grandson to the beach in Gabriel, my 15-year-old periwinkle-blue Subaru Outback. We were having a grand old time and about a half hour out I could feel the cool air begin to warm up. By the time we reached the beach it was blowing, yeah, at least it was still blowing, warm air. The beach, in its 90 plus degree weather down here in South Texas, was cooler than Gabriel.
We splashed and had fun in the water, fighting the red flag currents even as we stayed close to shore, then burying this six-foot young man up to his waist as he sat in the sand, a challenge for sure, and laughing. When we returned to the car, no cool air. Finding a restaurant which would let us in with our bathing suits, we had some delicious hamburgers and returned to Gabriel once more with hope in my heart and overwhelming doubt as to my wish of cool air becoming a reality.
Heading towards the bridge back to the mainland, the reality of the situation hit me. I was forced to surrender to the fact it was close to 100 degrees out and we had no AC to keep us fresh. I had no control of the situation. We had an hour and a half drive, no AC and we were still sticky and sandy from the beach.
I remembered how an actress working in a desert for a movie was once asked how did she manage it. She replied, “I merely said, 'So this is what it is like to work in over 100-degree weather.'” She knew she had no control; she loved what she did and she found a way.
“See, Mish, this is how it was back in the day before cars had air-conditioning,” I said, hoping to bring a different attitude to our state of affairs. He was such a great sport about it and even loved the wind blowing his hair all around. Yep, wind whipping through the wide-open windows, bringing relief. I visualized what it must have been like back in that era and before we knew it, after a quick stop for some icy milkshakes, we were back home.
As I was pondering on it this morning, I clearly saw how surrendering to the outcome, trusting what will be will be, and Letting Go freed me to have an unexpected grand adventure, one of my favorite things. The magic of life, Soul Contracts, making new choices, Letting Go, and refusing to be controlled are simply varied facets on this yellow-brick road of life.
Imagining I’m up on my cloud where I love to look down and ponder life from different angles, it’s so easy to see how Letting Go lets me jump off my cloud and know for a fact, my parachute will open and have me land exactly where it is I am supposed to be.
Will you come and jump with me? It is scary but knowing that sense of freedom, that the universe has a grand and glorious adventure waiting for us, makes it easier. Come on. Let’s jump!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
And now, how does that feel?
